Amélie — 2004

Amélie (2004) is a piece of web archaeology: the full recreation of a fan site Pablo Zarate built as a student at Escuela Da Vinci in 2004, for Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film. The original ran on Dreamweaver DHTML, framesets, Flash music loops, and a PHP splash that wrote the current time in Mistral over a photo of clouds. The revival keeps everything faithful — the two worlds (Mundo Amélie / Mundo Jeunet), the draggable photo-booth puzzle that snaps each character into place, the handwritten hover tooltips, the per-section music — while replacing what today's browsers can no longer run: Pointer Events instead of MM_dragLayer, Web Audio instead of Flash, mp4 instead of the downloadable .avi trailer, and AI-upscaled assets at 2x. The experience opens as a photograph of an iMac G4 with a post-it reading 'Amelie 7:30 Hoyts'; clicking the screen zooms in and the site opens in a period Safari window on the photo's own desktop.
